Overview

We’re looking for an experienced, architecturally-minded Staff Level Engineer on our API Usability team.

API usability team is an infrastructure service team focused on improving and modernizing the reliability and quality of MediaMath’s API offerings. This team manages authentication and authorization, as well as the decomposition of core monolithic services into micro services.

Our team is dealing with the core issues around distributed authentication and authorization in our industry. We’re developing new models on how to distribute trust, ensure security, and maintain privacy protections across sensitive systems. Our MathTag technology aggregates information from a swath of websites across the internet, and our team ensures that the data is secure, reliable and fast.

The team is looking for a leader in the industry to help direct our thoughts, and ‘level up’ our practice. The right person is an evangelist and practitioner of good software development hygiene. CI/CD, Test driven development, and strongly versioned environments (i.e., Docker). We like to keep our process simple, but it is great if you are an engineer who knows the value in a good backlog. MediaMath operates both management and engineering specialties – the position is not management. You won’t have to conduct reviews or figure out bonuses.

MediaMath is a different place to work than most tech companies. We’re already profitable - which means that we’re focused on getting it right not just getting it done fast. We’re well respected in our industry and enjoy a sustainable development culture. The benefits package we offer is family oriented, and we’re remote friendly too.

Responsibilities

  • Developing solutions: You’ll pair with our infrastructure and product teams to develop existing services into well-architected, scalable, testable, and maintainable software.
  • Connecting people: Help other team members to grow as engineers through code reviews, pairing, and mentoring.
  • Focusing on delivery: You’ll balance timelines and business priorities with technical feasibility, then communicate the best, most strategic way forward.

This is not an exhaustive list of responsibilities. As part of our global team, you may be required to be work off-hours or be on-call on a rotating basis. Other duties may be assigned, as needed. MediaMath retains the right to change job duties at any time.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of relevant software development

Skills:

  • We use Go on this team. We expect a love of Go, even if it’s not your primary language.
  • Working knowledge of Perl is a strong plus, as it’s our legacy application code base that we sometimes go spelunking in.
  • Strong experience in distributed/reactive frameworks such as Apache Kafka.
  • Well-versed in converting monoliths into best practice services. You know how to work with what we’ve got, not just “Let’s re-build it in node”

Traits

  • Calm demeanor – You’ve had enough experience in the industry to see it done wrong and want to see it done right.
  • Enjoy mentorship – Code review is your jam. Teaching, learning, and maybe even speaking to spread your learnings.
  • Part of the community – We encourage your participation in your engineering community. Conferences, hackathons, talks, open source.
